A new workshop at MIPRO 2019 Institute for Youth Development and Innovativity organizes a workshop “Micro:bit as a Tool for Digital Literacy and Computational Thinking” in cooperation with MIPRO at this year's MIPRO. It will take place on Wednesday afternoon (22 May) and is intended for parents, engineers and all others who would like to share their interest or encourage others’ interest in STEM fields. Ana Tolić from the Institute for Youth Development and Innovativity, who will be a workshop chair, will speak about the research which shows that children and teenagers, but also their teachers and parents around the world have no enough knowledge about engineering-related professions, their activities and challenges. School systems can’t solve this problem on their own, so they need an active engagement of parents and STEM professionals. This workshop will demonstrate in a practical, appealing and fun way, how to stimulate children’s and teenagers’ interest for ICT. It will inspire participants to work with children and teenagers, encourage their interest in STEM fields, but also show them in what way they can help other STEM motivators. Micro:bit will be used as an example technology for motivating and working with children and teenagers. Workshop participants will learn what can they do with children and teenagers in ICT, they will get some ideas about ways in which they can take part in STEM popularization processes, as well as how to help those who take part in STEM popularization.
