Optical Add/Drop multiplexers for all optical fiber communication  
Increasing demands on transmission systems due to the growing demand for services supported by the Internet have consequences in the continued development network worldwide. In communications systems are constantly asked more and more demanding in terms of the amount of payload data transmission speeds, the lowest possible errors and security. In terms of non-linear effects is discussed in more detail study stimulated inelastic scattering and their impact on optical add/drop multiplexers (OADM). This work is focused on the current state of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplex (DWDM) systems and the possibility to use different types of add/drop multiplexers. With increasing transmission speeds increase the effects of non-linear factors. In present is effort to limit nonlinear effects in the fiber as possible to the lowest level. This would allow transmission over longer distances without increasing the number of optical amplifiers on the optical route, but also maintain, respectively, increase the transmission capacity of the medium.

Korelacijska analiza dotoka u akumulacijske bazene 
Problem optimalnog korištenja akumulacijskih bazena je posebno složen, jer proizvodnja električne energije na jednom slivu posredno utječe na potrebnu proizvodnju iz ostalih elektrana u sustavu, na troškove pogona cjelokupnog elektroenergetskog sustava, na profit itd. Treba istovremeno promatrati više akumulacijskih bazena i niz korisnika. Osnovni ulazni podaci u svim simulacijskim i optimizacijskim proračunima, su prirodni dotoci u akumulacijske bazene. Međusobne veze u pojavi određenih dotoka značajno utječu na modeliranje dotoka u proračunima. U okviru korelacijske analize ustanovljava se postojanje veze između dva niza podataka, njen oblik, jačina i smjer. Cilj rada je, na osnovu relevantnih hidroloških podataka mjerenih u nizu godina, napraviti korelacijsku analizu između prirodnih dotoka u akumulacijske bazene na različitim riječnim slivovima. Treba razlikovati korelacijske veze dotoka zemljopisno bliskih riječnih slivove od onih udaljenih i za svaki od njih odrediti jakost veze. Korelacijska analiza dotoka zemljopisno bliskih riječnih slivova obuhvatila je izračun Pearsonovih koeficijenata korelacije i dijagrame rasprostiranja između dotoka u akumulacijske bazene na rijeci Cetini, Krki i Zrmanji. Korelacijska analiza zemljopisno udaljenih riječnih slivova obuhvatila je izračun Pearsonovih koeficijenata korelacije i dijagrama rasprostiranja između dotoka u akumulacijske bazene na rijeci Cetini i Kupi te Cetini i Dravi. Uočene su značajne razlike u prosječnoj jakosti veza u raznim primjerima.

PLC/SCADA Systems in Automation Control Design for Individual Quick Freezing Process in Cooling Tunnels 
Individual quick freezing process is a complex cooling process that takes place in cooling tunnels and is used for dynamic thermal processing of certain type of goods. Type of goods and temperature of goods that needs to be achieved over specific time in cooling tunnel determine the complexity of cooling process. Complex cooling process is therefore divided into two types of regulation. Temperature regulation, the inferior type, is used for control of the cooling and defrosting parts of the system according to predefined room temperature. Superior time-cycle regulation is used to control various cycles of operation by defining its time frames. These cycles together form a period of time in which the cooling system is appropriately used for goods' freezing. This paper describes further development in automation control design for complex cooling process in cooling tunnels. This design includes selection of appropriate control devices (temperature/pressure regulators, PLC device, HMI/SCADA), definition of LADDER program solution for dynamic time-cycle control, connection and configuration of HMI/SCADA system used for defining the number/duration of time cycles of cooling and defrosting operations and monitoring the system conditions.

Sustav grijanja pogona za sušenje papira 
S obzirom da je u današnje vrijeme potražnja papira sve veća, proizvođačmai papira se nameću sve kompliciranije norme u pogledu proizvodnje i poboljšanja kvalitete papira. Tako u papirnoj industriji veliku ulogu vodi sama izgradnja papirnog stroja koji je u potpunosti automatiziran pomoću programljivih logičkih kontrolera (eng. Programmable Logic Controllers, PLC). U radu je prikazan vrlo bitan segment papirnog stroja koji služi za sušenje papira prilikom proizvodnje. Prikazan je tehnološki proces i sustav automatizacije te nadzorno-upravljačko rješenje sustava.

Uređaj za testiranje baterijskih ćelija 18650  
Prilikom izrade baterijski napajanih elektroničkih sklopova, uvjek se postavlja pitanje vremenskog ograničenja rada tako izvedenog sklopa. Da bi dobili točne vrijednosti, za pojedine baterijske ćelije potrebno je izvršiti njihovo testiranje odnosno kontrolirano prazniti i mjeriti njihov napon i struju. Ako se želi saznati kapacitet ćelije potrebno je istu prvo napuniti, te onda prazniti određenom strujom i mjeriti vrijeme, a dobivene rezultate treba na odgovarajući način prikazati korisniku. U radu je prikazan razvoj prototipa uređaja za testiranje baterijskih ćelija pomoću Arduino sustava. Opisane su sve sastavne komponente uređaja i objašnjen je rad sklopa kao cjeline. Testiranje se provodi na baterijskim ćelijama normiranih brojem 18650 koje su danas jedne od najkorištenijih.

Layout Optimizations to Decrease Internal Power and Area in Digital CMOS Standard Cells 
The purpose of this work is to report different design and layout optimizations allowing decreasing both internal power and area of standard cells currently used in digital circuits. To avoid the increase of propagation delays, a new process has been developed and drive current (ION) of MOSFETs is improved by 15 % and 50 % for respectively NMOS and PMOS transistors. Post-layout simulations have been performed on standard and new D flip flop with new design rules and active widths shrunk in CMOS 80 nm technology. Results show that internal power consumed during rising and falling transitions CP to Q is decreased by up to 20 % for similar propagation times. In addition, the total area of D flip flop is reduced by almost 20 % and reliability of new design rules have been validated on silicon test structures (MOSFETs and ring oscillators).

A Simple Clock-Fault Detection Analog Circuit for High-Speed Crystal Oscillators 
This paper presents a simple architecture for clock-fault detection in high-speed applications. The overall principle consists in converting a possible error of time to a logic voltage level. When a high voltage level is present at the output, a reliable clock is detected whereas a low voltage level implies a clock error. This detection system is intended for all System-on-Chip such as microcontrollers which use external clock from 4 MHz to 50 MHz. The proposed circuit is realized in CMOS 40 nm process technology. Simulation results prove the suitability of the structure and its integration on silicon is strongly considered by clock error detection in integrated circuits.

Performance analysis of parallel reduction and matrix multiplication on Parallella-16 heterogeneous system 
Often one of the biggest practical challenges in parallel programming is choosing the right algorithm for a particular architecture, that is choosing the right architecture for a particular algorithm. In this paper we discuss the differences between the behavior of one relatively simple algorithm, the reduction algorithm and somewhat more complex, the algorithm for matrix multiplication, throughout the execution of these algorithms on the unique architecture, Parallella board. In order to evaluate the performance of parallel implementation, some metrics such as speedup, have been measured through performing these algorithms both sequential and parallel. Furthermore, this analysis includes three different parallel implementations of both algorithms. All this has been done in order to determine exactly which type of algorithm is architecture of Parallella board designed for. The main conclusion of our experimental study is that for more complex algorithms Parallella board shows better results, because majority of the time of total program execution time, when running simpler algorithms is spent on the communication, synchronization and other side effects that parallelization brings.

Building network-enabled smart sensors and actuators 
The advent of the new Internet-of-Things (IoT) paradigm in last few years redefined the ways how the small embedded systems can enhance smart sensors and actuators to provide a new possibilities in ubiquitously interconnected global world. Although there is a rising tendency in modern low-power embedded system design to provide some kind of IoT functionality out-of-the-box due to the availability of network-aware microcontrollers and system-on-chip (SoC) solutions, there is also a great need to upgrade legacy solutions to fit them into this new paradigm shift. At the lowest level of the system design, in most cases there is a requirement for some computationaly capable low power microcontroller, long autonomy from a single battery power supply, embedded network interface (wired or wireless, typically Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth), embedded communication protocol stack, peristent data storage, and some scalable real-time operating system (RTOS). Moreover, there is typically a need to provide access from a smart client device with rich user interface, such as tablets or smart phones. This is a typical scenario for upgrading legacy systems to provide Internet connectivity, remote monitoring, data logging, crowd sensing etc. In this article we describe a simple generic framework for upgrading legacy devices, that was built upon the state-of-the-art low cost and low power off-the-shelf hardware components, and open source software. The solution can be easily adapted for various types of smart sensors and actuators. We describe a common set of requirements for building such systems, design decisions reasoning, comparison and justification of HW/SW components choice, and sample demonstration of adaptation and upgrade of the chosen commercial equipment, a device for bubble production at children fun events and similar applications.

Turning a smartphone into structured light 3D scanner 
As they became a very power full hardware platform, available and attractive for a very high number of users, smartphones are receiving more and more attention recently, being an important commercial field but a popular research topic as well. In this paper, we present a method to create dense 3D models of small-scale objects. We facilitate the hardware already available on the smartphones thus turning them into practical 3D scanners without the need of additional hardware. Our algorithm is based on the weak structured light approach, using the capabilities of the HTC Evo 3D smartphone (flash, rear camera). The first reconstruction results are presented as well as the guidelines for the future work. Finnaly, an approach which should be able to turn every smartphone available on the market into a practical and easy to use 3D scanner is proposed.

A Heuristics Approach to Hamiltonian Completion Problem (HPC) 
The Hamiltonian completion problem is a NP-hard problem which consists of finding the smallest number of additional edges to make the graph Hamiltonian. This is a well known problem but rarely analyzed in academic circles. We study the problem on random sparse graphs and compare results of different heuristic approaches. We develop a modification for the Ant colony optimization (ACO) and show that, while the standard ACO presents a better approach to this problem than observed Genetic and Immunological algorithms, the modified ACO algorithm provides the best results by far.

Security of End User Wireless Networks in Zagreb Area 
In this paper we analyze use of security protection protocols from the end user standpoint, by collecting geographical and security data on a vast number of networks in the urban area. Analysis of wireless networks was performed in the city of Zagreb at the end of 2014 and is based on around 43000 individual wireless computer networks that were scanned. Collected relevant data shows the current state of wireless network security, and trends in computer security. It also reveals data on the use of new technologies and ways of how users utilize the equipment, and what is the amount of configuration that end users do on their equipment. The collected data was analyzed from the viewpoint of used technologies, security settings, and adherence to best practices when configuring the network, with special reference to the unprotected networks, and possible attack vectors on local networks. All collected data is topologically marked, allowing not only to discover security trends, but also other trends in usage of wireless computer networks. By doing a comparison with a similar study done a couple of years ago, we intend to not only show current state of end-user wireless security, but correlate to historic data.

Learning from student thesis products: examples and experiences 
Products life cycle goes through several different development stages. One of the tasks set before engineers is to start from an idea and build it up all to the final product. This process is taught to students through seminars and graduation thesis. In education environment it is possible, and desirable, to divide the process so that students can easily acquire necessary knowledge and skills. Experiences at Department of Electrical Engineering of University of applied sciences proved that electrical and electronic products resulting of graduation thesis are also useful in the teaching process of current students, either by direct use in laboratory work or by student work on product enhancement. This paper will present student products and applications implemented in classroom, and their possible improvements.

Extracting Domain Knowledge by Complex Networks Analysis of Wikipedia Entries 
In this paper we describe a complex network analysis of data and relations extracted from Wikipedia. The goal is to analyze relations of various terms described in Wikipedia articles. First we collect articles from Wikipedia related to the limited domains (complex networks, computer science, etc.). After that we construct directed networks in a way that articles are nodes and links between two nodes are established if there is a link (a Wiki link) between these two articles. We vary the depth of linking. Then we apply complex network analysis to identify the most significant terms in the domain, find the terms that are highly interconnected and analyze relations between articles.

LaNCoA: A Python Toolkit for Language Networks Construction and Analysis 
In this paper we describe a Python package for construction, exploration and analysis of language networks. The package provides various procedures for network construction from the text: on the word level (co-occurence networks, syntax networks, shuffled networks), and on the sub-word level (syllable networks, grapheme networks). Furthermore, we implement functions for the language networks analysis on the global and local level. The package is organized in several modules that enable various aspects of language analysis: analysis of global network measures for different co-occurrence window, comparison of networks based on original and shuffled texts, comparison of networks constructed on different language levels, etc. Simple text manipulation methods, like lemmatization and stopwords removal, are also implemented. For the basic network representation we use available NetworkX functions and methods. However, language network analysis is specific and it requires implementation of additional functions and methods. That was the main motivation for this project/research.

Parallelization of Two Popular Parallel Sorting Algorithms on GPU Using OpenCL 
This paper presents a comparative analysis of the two most commonly used parallel sorting algorithms: Bitonic Sort and Parallel Radix Sort. Many problems require effiecent sorting of large amounts of data and that is why sorting has been, and still is, an important discussion topic in computer science. Traditionally, sorting algorithms are implemented on CPUs, but the performance of the CPU doesn’t increase as steadily as until about 10 years ago[7]. It has been proven that the complexity of comparison based sorting algorithms can be no lower than O(nlogn)[6]. The computing power of parallel devices is rapidly increasing, which indicates a new approach towards improving the efficiency of sorting. The benchmark in this paper will show whether or not any speedup can be gained from more compute power, and if so, can it outweigh and by how much, the overhead caused by a higher complexity of the sorting algorithm. This will be analyzed by comparing the performance of OpenCL kernels of the two mentioned parallel sorting algorithms with the sequential implementation of the Quick Sort algorithm. The hardware used for this experiment is an AMD R9 270 GPU and an Intel i5-4460 CPU.

Mobile application for finding ATMs 
This paper describes mobile application that gives Android users the ability to find ATMs quickly. Currently, the application offers locations of ATMs for various banks in Rijeka, Croatia. It also provides the possibility of finding the shortest path to the chosen ATM, as well as helpful tips where they can withdraw the money free of charge. The idea for this application was born after realizing that many people were wasting time looking for a place to withdraw money. This application saves time to inhabitants as well as to visitors of the city.

Opatija - 170 godina turizma:

Opatija, često nazivana i biser Jadrana, jedna je od najpoznatijih destinacija u Hrvatskoj s turističkom tradicijom koja ove godine slavi 170 godina. Smještena uz rub Mediterana, na obali Kvarnerskog zaljeva i padinama planine Učke koje se blago spuštaju prema moru, Opatija svojim klimatskim karakteristikama, prekrasnom arhitekturom, kvalitetnim hotelima, prekrasnim njegovanim parkovima i šetnicama pruža mogućnosti za ugodan boravak tijekom cijele godine.

Prvi je čari Opatije otkrio riječki patricij Iginio Scarpa, sagradivši ovdje 1844. godine svoj ljetnikovac koji je nazvao Villa Angiolina po svojoj preminuloj supruzi, čime je otvoren put razvoju turizma. To je bio tek početak.

Hotel je otvoren 27. ožujka 1884. godine. Nazvan je Hotel Quarnero, a gosti su na raspolaganju imali 60 soba. U to vrijeme nastaju i brojne luksuzne vile, ljetnikovci, hoteli, pansioni, sanatoriji, paviljoni, kupališta, šetališta i parkovi. U Opatiju dolaze najpoznatiji liječnici Monarhije i otvaraju sanatorije, grade se šetališta i kupališta. Opatija je tako uz Nicu, Karlove Vare, Cannes i Biarritz postala jedno od najznačajnijih europskih mondenih lječilišta devetnaestog i prve polovice dvadesetog stoljeća.

Ovdje su boravili kraljevi i carevi, književnici, filozofi, pisci, pjesnici i glazbenici. Spomenimo cara Franju Josipa, cara Vilima II, rumunjsku kraljicu Elizabetu, poznatu kao pjesnikinju koja je svoje pjesme objavljivala pod pseudonimom Carmen Sylva, zatim caricu Sissi, pisce A. P. Čehova i Jamesa Joycea, plesačicu Isadoru Duncan, skladatelje Gustava Mahlera i Giacoma Puccinija. Vidjeti i biti viđen - za to je trebalo doći u Opatiju.

Nakon II. svjetskog rata, turizam u Opatiji orijentira se na ljetnu sezonu i na razvoj kongresne ponude. Kroz svo to vrijeme, Opatija je svoju važnost destinacije koja pruža nešto posebno zadržala do danas.

Osvojit će vas mnogočime - prvorazrednim kongresnim sadržajima, odličnim smještajem, wellness centrima za odmor i opuštanje, te ljubaznim i uslužnim osobljem koje će izaći ususret svim vašim željama.
