Prof. dr. Ferenc Krausz, awarded by the Nobel Prize

 

Prof. Dr. Ferenc Krausz is a physicist who was awarded the Wolf Prize and the Nobel Prize. In 2004, he was appointed Director of the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics in Garching, Germany. Since 2004, alongside his role at the Max Planck Institute, he has been the Chair of Experimental Physics – Laser Physics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität. Between 2006 and 2009, he co-founded and served as the Founding Director of the Munich-Centre for Advanced Photonics. From 2010 to 2019, he served as the Director of the center, and from 2010 to 2016, he was also a Visiting Professorat Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) in South Korea. Since 2015, he has been the Founding Director of the Centre for Advanced Laser Applications at LMU Munich. In 2019, he became the Executive Director of the Center for Molecular Fingerprinting.

His research group was the first to generate and measure attosecond light pulses and use them to map the movement of electrons within atoms, establishing the field of attophysics, which earned him the nickname “sniper of electrons.”.
