The Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds of the Republic of Croatia, in cooperation with the European Commission, is organizing an online event called “Cohesion policy investment in digital education: the experience of e-Schools in Croatia” that will take place on 23 February 2021 starting at 09:15.
It will offer the opportunity to present the unique experience of a landmark project supported with more than €180 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund (ESF) and draw broader policy lessons for investments in digital transition of the sector across the EU.
The project has been awarded with the annual RegioStars award for 2020 in the category Skills and Education for a digital Europe. It has also been included in the Commission’s RecoverEU campaign.
The event will take place with the participation of Vice-President for Democracy and Demography Dubravka Šuica, Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira, Minister of Regional Development and EU funds of Republic of Croatia Nataša Tramišak, Minister of Science and Education Radovan Fuchs.
Andreas Schleicher, Director for the Directorate of Education and Skills at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) will touch upon the importance of ICT deployment and relevant structural reforms in the education sector, especially against the background and challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first part will be dedicated to the presentation of the comprehensive strategic approach in preparing and implementing the project in Croatia with concrete testimonies from the Croatian Academic and Research Network (CARNET), beneficiary of the project, and teachers and students whose learning environment has improved thanks to it.
The second part will bring together policy-makers at national and regional level, experts, representatives of the European Commission and JASPERS to discuss the way cohesion policy is supporting the roll-out of innovative digital technologies in the education sector.
