„Machine to machine“ (M2M) business and the market is at its beginning. It will have a major impact on life in future when the M2M communication and services will become our everyday reality. The way of developing M2M applications today is quite different from what is expected tomorrow. Today, many small, medium and large companies began to develop or already has developed „vertical“ and isolated M2M applications. This leads to repetition of functionality in each application and does not give the opportunity to open and use the same functions in the broader market of M2M applications.
Grouping and integration of such applications on the M2M platform provides significant savings in application development, simplifies management of terminal devices, and integration in the surrounding systems of M2M service providers is done only once. The platform provides an open and simple software interfaces (API) for the development and integration of applications and devices, a number of functionalities that are implemented only once on the platform rather than for each application separately, serving more enterprises (tenants)i.e. end-users with a unique instance of the platform and at the end the distribution over a single “Marketplace“ of applications stored in the „cloud“.
Within this workshop, through a series of presentations and demonstrations, will be presented the world of M2M applications and devices and its challenges, the principles of grouping and use of functions and interfaces between applications. The aim of the workshop is to present the current ecosystem of M2M services in Croatia and region, what local companies are doing and is there any initiative of using a common platform i.e., integrated offer of M2M application. What are the potential M2M services (such as vending machines management, fleet management, e-health, smart metering, control of elevators) that are suitable to offer on our market? What to do in order to stimulate the local market to provide M2M services? What is the role of telecommunication operators and equipment manufactures? What are the requirements to the mobile network and what telecommunications equipment manufacturers can propose as a solution? The workshop is intended for telecommunication operators and equipment manufacturers, application producers, device manufacturers and integrators, and small business that this opens up new opportunities and new market and at the end to all other interested.
