Pan-European enhanced 112 emergency call service (for the U.S. E911) is an extension of already applied general emergency call service by adding 112 locations calls made from cars.
The industry, especially car manufacturers, supports the European Commission in achieving the objectives of halving the number of fatalities on European roads by 2010. A public eCall service should be pan-European and available to all customers. Emergency services in general are under full public responsibility of the national governments fulfilling the fundamental right of a citizen to receive professional help in case of an emergency. Response to road crash emergency calls by rescue services also fall under public responsibility.
The topic of eCall is of high interest for the Republic of Croatia, due to its status of EU candidate country and to possibility for provision of a very important service not only to its citizens, but also to the all guests visiting the country.
During the workshop the technical background of eCall concept will be explained, as well as the existing European legislation and standards. Finally, a discussion by the stakeholders (Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia, National Protection and Rescue Directorate of the Republic of Croatia, industry, universities and other interested parties) will be initiated with the interest to show which changes are required in the Republic of Croatia to achieve compatibility with Europe.
