On Thursday, February 11, the European University Sports Association (EUSA), the umbrella organization of academic sports in Europe, held its EUSA Awards Ceremony online, recognising and celebrating the achievements and contributions of individuals, universities and associations in European university sport. 

The University of Zagreb is recognized as the best and most active university in Europe.

Algebra LAB is one of the organizers of the successfully held Green-Tech Hackathon

Green-Tech Hackathon was held on 13th and 14th February 2021, organized by the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and partners - Fil Rouge Capital as an investment partner and Algebra LAB as an organizational-logistical and advisory one. The hackathon was held online, lasting more than 30 hours, and after more than 100 applications, 14 teams with a total of 63 competitors from all over Croatia participated in the finals. They were joined by team members from neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also expats currently living in Germany or - South Korea!

Hrvatski Telekom makes it possible for Croatian electric car drivers to use charging stations in Slovenia

Hrvatski Telekom has made a new step forward in e-mobility and enabled owners of electric vehicles in Croatia, who are also users of Hrvatski Telekom's charging service, to charge cars at almost 300 charging stations in Slovenia operated by the two largest Slovenian operators. These charging stations are now available to Croatian drivers who can charge their electric cars using the HT Magenta prepaid card, available in selected T-Centers, and the espoTs app, which they can download to their mobile phones.

Professors at FER among world's top scientists

A group of researchers from Stanford University in California (USA) recently published a study on the scientific citation, ranking around 160,000 of the world's most cited scientists in all disciplines and listing 2% of the world's most-cited scientists. 

The list of the most influential scientists in the world for the entire scientific career includes 47 Croatian scientists, including professor Sven Lončarić, Ph.D. and associate professor Dubravko Babić, Ph.D. from FER.

Great success of the educational program "Elements of AI"

The educational program "Elements of AI" is now available throughout the Republic of Croatia for all interested citizens. All content is available in Croatian as well. The initiative for this educational program came from the cooperation of the University of Zagreb, the University of Helsinki and the technology company Reaktor, and the training and placement of the educational program was carried out in cooperation with the Croatian Artificial Intelligence Association CroAI.

The Berlin Declaration on Digital Society and Value-based Digital Government has been signed on 8 December by the responsible ministers of all EU Member States. The Central State Office for the Development of the Digital Society participated as a representative of the Republic of Croatia.

Ruđer Bošković Institute is a partner in the InnovaMare project, which is carried out by the Croatian Chamber of Commerce. Faculty of Electrical Enginering and Computing, Zagreb is the leading institution in Croatia in terms of the number of active projects

FER started 2021 with a record 255 active scientific research projects, thus once again confirmed its status as the most desirable partner in applied research and innovation development, both in the domestic and in the international economic and research environment.

Last year, 111 projects were contracted, which is almost twice as many as in the newly contracted projects in 2019, when 57 projects started.

Nokia and CMCC trial AI-powered radio access on live 5G network

On 21 January Nokia and China Mobile (CMCC) announced that they have successfully completed live trials of an AI-powered radio access network (RAN) over CMCC’s network. Utilizing CMCC’s 4G and 5G networks, the companies completed an AI-based real-time user equipment (UE) traffic bandwidth forecast trial in Shanghai as well as a network anomaly detection trial in Taiyuan, the capital city of China’s Shanxi province.

Hrvoje Josip Balen, a member of the Board of Algebra, will help Google to choose valuable projects

Google has presented a valuable competition for Central and Eastern European organizations. It will award a total of €2m in grants to selected tenderers from Croatia and ten other countries in the region to support their charity projects. Among the experts who will help Google choose valuable projects is Hrvoje Josip Balen, co-founder and board member of Algebra.

Nokia supports T-Mobile 5G evolution with five-year expansion deal

Nokia announced on 14 January a continuation of its long standing T-Mobile partnership with a five-year deal. T-Mobile will utilize Nokia’s AirScale Radio platform to deploy an Ultra Capacity 5G layer with 2.5GHz Massive MIMO technology, shifting the Un-carrier customer experience into overdrive. Under the new agreement, Nokia will continue to expand T-Mobile’s extended range (low-band) 5G coverage. Both the extended range and Ultra Capacity enhancements will augment user experience and network capacity by leveraging T-Mobile’s multi-layer spectrum strategy.

Telstra, Ericsson and Qualcomm achieve world first, record of 5Gbps 5G download speed on a commercial network

Telstra, in collaboration with Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. on 19 January announced the successful completion of a new 5G maximum download speed record on a commercial network of 5Gbps for a single user. The 5G NR data call was performed at the 5G Innovation Centre on the Gold Coast using the commercial production network.
